12 Hours (6 sessions of 2 hours each)

“How do you get all those colors in one sweater?”

Come learn all about this history and techniques used in making a Fair Isle sweater. These lovely treasures are one of my absolute favorite projects – using size 2 or 4 needles, Shetland yarn, rhythmic patterns, wonderful colors that change every row or so and the oh-so-clever simple techniques used to steek and cut and finish. The perfect design in my book!

We’ll cover all the techniques used in creating a corrugated rib, doing an FI gauge swatch, setting up your project and the finishing work. Each student will receive a Fair Isle kit of Spindrift Shetland wool and a pattern to create a mini-cardigan. We’ll work through this sweater sampler using the techniques learned in class, where you can follow a color chart or explore and create your own design. Suitable for advanced knitters with 2 color knitting experience.

Materials: Please bring to class a set of circular needles (16”) and a set of double point needles in size #2, #3 and #4.
